SingleCrystal 1.0

SingleCrystal is a native Mac OS X program designed to make diffraction, reciprocal lattices and stereograms. SingleCrystal reads saved crystal files to simulate and display electron diffraction patterns on screen. Open a crystal file in SingleCrystal to obtain a single-crystal diffraction pattern for any displayed crystal structure. In addition to simulating electron diffraction patterns, you can also visualize entire sections of reciprocal space, with the option of lattice or weighted-lattice display. SingleCrystal lets you display Miller Indices, measure distances and angles between diffraction spots - and even display the phases of reflexions, using colour-coded spots!

Real-Time Control. SingleCrystal lets you rotate your crystal in real time, by clicking-and-dragging with the mouse, clicking toolbar "tilt" controls, or using the keyboard. Precise tilts can be entered, or specific view directions specified. Other controls allow you to change the scale (camera constant), saturation, sample thickness, wavelength and other diffraction controls.

Stereographic Projection To help you navigate through diffraction space, you can take advantage of a cool navigational aid: a live stereographic projection ("stereogram") which slides out in a drawer window at the side of the main diffraction window. The stereogram shows the angular positions of plane normals, plotted as poles and optionally as great circle traces. You can customize the display, adding any number of poles, with or without their traces, using different colours. Furthermore, you can click-and-drag the stereogram display to quickly rotate your crystal, and watch as the diffraction pattern is recalculated in real time.

Built for Mac OS X. SingleCrystal is a genuine Mac OS X application, utilizing the latest system technologies including high-resolution smooth Quartz 2D graphics, system-level online help with search facility, and a modern Aqua interface which includes window sheets and a customizable window toolbar. Each diffraction window has a fully-customizable toolbar, permitting drag-and-drop installation of additional tools to suit your requirements.
